At Kemp FC, we believe in promoting not just excellence on the field, but also namma Karnataka's vibrant culture.
This season, we’re incredibly proud to integrate Chittara art into our jerseys. It’s our commitment to promoting and showcasing this beautiful folk art form, honouring the hands that create it, and inspiring a new generation to appreciate and preserve our State's cultural treasures. When our players step onto that pitch, they won't just represent Kemp FC; they'll be wearing a piece of Karnataka's soul.
Native to Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga districts, around Sagara, Siddapur, Honnavar, Deevaru women, following matrilineal oral traditions passed down since over 200 years, paint Chittara to sanctify spaces, invoke auspiciousness, and connect generations during weddings, naming ceremonies, house warmings, harvest festivals, etc.
The intricate, geometric motifs carry deep symbolic meaning: Triangles signify fertility and feminine divinity, Grids and dots suggest harmony and cosmic order, Rhombuses mark seasonal and life transitions.
Natural, eco‑friendly materials are used:
Wall base: red laterite soil mixed with cow dung
Paints: rice flour (white), charcoal (black), turmeric or laterite earth (yellow & red)
Brushes: handcrafted from frayed areca nut stems or bamboo
The designs are created freehand without rulers, each held in oral memory and refined through practice. They are erased post-ritual and not meant for decoration or permanence, but only to mark rites, seasons, and transitions in community life.
